A. R. Rahman (Also known as: A. R. R./ Allah Rakha Rahman/ Isai Puyal/ Mozart of Madras) was born on 6th January, 1967 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. A. R. Rahman is a Singer, Songwriter, Composer, Record Producer, Music Director, Arranger and Conductor. Rahman works across different genres like Film Scores, Electronic, Dance and Classical. Rahman knows the following instruments to play Vocals, Guitar, Percussion, Drums, Harpejji, Continuum Fingerboard, Keyboard, Piano, Accordion, Goblet Drum and Concert Harp.
A. R. Rahman started his career as composer in 1987 when he composed jingles for line of watches from Allwyn. However, Rahman’s mainstream composing was done for Roja movie in Tamil language in 1992. From the same year, Rahman started composing for other language movies like Malayalam and Telugu. From 1995, Rahman started composing for Hindi movies; his first being the Award winning movie Rangeela. Apart from Indian languages, Rahman has also composed for movies of languages in English, Mandarin and Persian.
Rahman is one of the most notable music composers in India as well as the World, winning many National and International awards. Among his awards are two Academy Awards, a BAFTA Award, two Grammy Awards and a Golden Globe Award for movie Slumdog Millionaire in the year 2009, Padma Shri Award from Government of India in 2000, four National Awards, thirteen Filmfare Award for many movies and Kalaimamani Award from Government of Tamil Nadu in 1995.
Rahman's works are noted for integrating Eastern classical music with electronic music, world music and traditional orchestral arrangements. Rahman has become a notable humanitarian and philanthropist, donating and raising money for a number of causes and charities.
